Even then, only certain elements can be used to generate electricity, such as Hydrogen or Helium. This makes the collection of stellar energy a fairly expensive process. Yet, since stars are such a prominent part of our universe, it is certainly something to consider.
The Difference Between Wind and Solar Energy
Although both wind and solar energy are types of green energy, they serve different purposes. Wind energy is the kinetic energy of moving air that is available for conversion into usable energy. The air moves around when an electric current passes through a wire, and this is how we generate electricity. This electricity is then stored in a battery or used directly to power electronics. The advantage of wind energy is that it is very easy to obtain and there are many places around the globe where it is constantly blowing. The disadvantage is that we need to build many wind farms to achieve significant energy production because it is so hard to catch wind consistently everywhere we need power. Additionally, we cannot rely entirely on wind energy because it is affected by weather conditions. When the Sun starts to shine, we can utilize the power of the wind to generate electricity. The chief advantage of chemical energy is that we don’t need to depend on the Sun for power. This is because the process of nuclear fusion will continue independently of the Sun’s presence. The disadvantage is that we need to undergo a lengthy process of fission in order to trigger the reaction. Once it begins, it can’t be stopped. This means that there will be constant radioactivity for the rest of our lives if we are generating power from it. Chemical energy is available whenever we need it and can be used to power anything that can be fueled by it. This makes it highly versatile and convenient to use. Yet, as with any other form of energy, there are disadvantages associated with chemical energy. The biggest one is that it is highly polluting and dangerous to generate. Another disadvantage is that this energy can only be used to power large equipment and factories. Smaller devices and appliances cannot be powered by chemical energy because they require more power than is available. Due to these disadvantages, most power plants that utilize chemical energy are either huge, industrial plants or military bases.
Which One to Choose?
There are advantages and disadvantages to both wind and solar energy. We need to decide which one is the best available option for our energy needs. The first step is to assess how much electricity we need. If we are generating enough electricity to power all of our electronics, it is safe to assume that we are exceeding our daily needs. In this case, solar energy is the clear winner. It is readily available and can be used to generate electricity quickly and easily. The drawback is that the Sun isn’t always shining, so we won’t always have solar energy when we need it. Wind energy is the next best thing because it is constantly available and can be used to generate electricity when we need it. The advantage of wind energy is that we can obtain it from any type of system, whether large or small. This makes it very versatile. In addition, we don’t need special tools to collect it. Once we have it, we can utilize any type of device to convert it to electricity. In most cases, we will need electrical equipment to transform wind energy into usable electricity, but it can be done with or without it. The disadvantage of wind energy is that it is not always enough to fulfill our electrical needs, especially in areas where it is difficult to catch wind. If we are relying on wind energy to meet a large portion of our needs, we should probably be building more wind farms to increase our total production. Finally, we need to keep in mind that both wind and solar energy are affected by climate change. As the world gets warmer, the winds become faster and stronger. This makes it harder to generate power. The Sun also gets weaker and eventually begins to lose its ability to provide energy. These are the main reasons why we need to seriously consider alternative energy sources.
