Report from the Sat. night bowling league - we have a number of really good pin masters that are thinking of turning pro - a little work at bowling camp this summer and they will be ready for the fall tour. I wonder where the championships are this year - South Spratly Island, maybe.

I got up and typed for a long time this morning. Got most of my journals done. Then I went to church. It was a good sermon. When I got back they had already started but I did not miss much. They were doing an experiment on natural selection.

Steve Eiger: Steve’s points on evolution this morning really wrapped up the whole pint of the past four days. His references to the book theories presented in Guns, Germs and Steel—the use of domesticated animals to help select for humans able to survive virus infections reinforced Mark Jutilla’s point on the “beauty of selection” and biotic potential. It was great to see the students do the activity on peppered moths in England—I think they could better related to what was going on after playing the simulation on South Spratly Island. As a teacher, I can see the development of this idea in my own curriculum — teaching biotic potential and then evolutionary theory.

We talked about how viruses do a sloppy job of reproduction that is why they can adapt so quickly. That is why we have a new flu every year. We also talked about that the English had an advantage over the Indians because of viruses. How natural selection is involved in all changes in viruses' animals and plants.

After that we went to lunch and now I am writing this. I had so much fun this trip I hope you can keep this going.
P.S. I beat you by more next time Ken!!!!!!!!:)
