Base Camp Earth launches virtual explorations of contemporary science issues. Our explorers are high school volunteers and science teachers who sign up at our site. Each expedition devotes four days to hands-on, interactive, inquiry-based learning about the science issue. During the journey, we document the team's interests, discoveries, frustrations, pitfalls and epiphanies, then build a website about them. The story-based format of these science sites make them popular with high school students, who find it easy to relate to the joy and the challenge of learning non-textbook science.
